MEDICAL EYE CONDITION SERVICE

What is MECS?

MECS stands for Minor Eye Conditions Service. It is a NHS funded service for all that are registered with a GP within Lambeth, Lewisham or

Southwark. If you have a sudden concern with the health of your eyes or if your GP advises you to attend –you may be entitled to an appointment with our specifically accredited optometrist.

Instead of having to visit hospital for treatment, patients can now be seen by our highly trained Optometrist. The aim of the scheme is to allow patients to access treatment quickly. We can see and treat patients for a range of conditions such as…

*red eye
*sticky eye (difficulty opening your eye or yellow discharge)
*watery eye (excessive tears)
*pain or discomfort in or around the eyes
*recent onset or sudden increase of flashes of light or floating objects in your vision

If you are unsure whether your eye problem requires medical attention, please call us and we will be happy to help.
As well as the MECS scheme, we also participate in the Cataract Refinement Scheme and Glaucoma Repeat Reading Schemes.
